There are four recognised national minorities living in Germany: the Danish minority, the Sorbian people, the Frisian minority and the German Sinti and Roma. The protection and promotion of these groups also extends to their respective languages – Danish, North and Sater Frisian, Upper and Lower Sorbian, and the Romani language of the German Sinti and Roma. In addition, Low German (Plattdeutsch) is officially protected as a regional language.
The travelling exhibition ‘Was heißt hier Minderheit?’ provides insight into the history, language and social role of the five groups mentioned above. Interactive stations allow visitors to learn more about their realities, identities and perspectives. The exhibition invites visitors to look beyond South Tyrol and draw comparisons with local experiences.
On 23 October at 11:00 a.m., we cordially invite you to the opening of the travelling exhibition at the House of Culture ‘Walther von der Vogelweide’ in Bozen/Bolzano/Bulsan. After welcoming remarks, a keynote speech and a short guided tour of the exhibition, all guests are invited to a buffet. Participation in the event is free of charge and registration is not required.
On 24 and 25 October, minority representatives will offer guided tours of the exhibition:
- 24 October, 4 p.m.: Mads Lausten
- 25 October, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.: Malin Tellmann
The exhibition is open from 23 October to 2 December 2025 (Monday to Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.).
